Players handicaps are calculated at the start of each season. This is done by either the Mens or Ladies Quorums. Each Quorum consists of 5 people -
Men’s Handicap, Ladies Crib – The player with the lowest handicap must score 21 shots to win the game, and the player with the highest handicap must reach 21 shots plus the difference between the two handicaps.
For instance: Player A has a handicap of 4 due to regularly doing well in high level league matches. Meanwhile Player B is in their first full season playing bowls and has a handicap of 0. Therefore to win the game Player A must get 21+4= 25 shots, but if Player B gets to 21 shots before Player A gets to 25 shots, then Player B wins the game.
Mixed Pairs handicap – calculate the handicap by adding the two handicaps and dividing by two. If there is a ½ go to the lowest umber (ie 7 +2 = 9 divided by 2 = 4 ½ so becomes 4). The difference in the handicap of the players is added, after the first end, to the score of the players with the lowest handicap.
