Umpire

Our club is exceptionally fortunate to have a highly qualified umpire at our Club –
John McKenzie - National Marker/Umpire

An Umpire is required at all County Knockout and Team competitions, and also on the Club Finals weekend.

  • They check every players bowls before play begins to make sure each set has the same registration number & Club Sticker.
  • They also measure very short jack when Skips are not sure that the Lead has bowled it to minimum length.
  • Another duty that often sees an Umpire on the green is when either very long, or extremely close bowls need to be measured for shot. They have a range of equipment on which to call upon, including callipers and thin plates to decide which is closest to the jack.

An Umpire’s equipment case is always kept on the premises, should it be required – ask Captains or Coaches where it is if neither umpire is available.
