Umbrella

Monday evenings - open to ALL playing members

The Club Umbrella is open to all Playing Members, including novice players once they have been “certified” by the Coaches that they are ready to play. It is a wonderful opportunity for club members of all abilities and ages to play together in a relaxed and friendly environment and make new friends while having fun playing this addictive game. Dress code is SMART CASUAL

The Umbrella is held every Monday evening and there is a lottery system as to who you play with. It is usually Triples (ie 3 bowls) but sometimes if numbers are uneven then a Pair a may arise. Therefore it is prudent to have all 4 of your bowls in your locker, just in case.

Umbrellas are a great opportunity for inexperienced Threes to do "Threes Up" with experienced Skips - allowing them to watch and learn different strategies and ways to read a head. We encourage players to use this opportunity.

Arrive around 6.00pm. Then the organiser will ring a bell and invite everyone to pick a tag out of the bag. Each tag is either Red or Blue (your team colour), it has the rink number you are playing on, and the position you are playing in. Go to your rink and meet your new team mates for an enjoyable and friendly game (usually around 16 ENDS).

Play starts promptly at 6.15pm.

Once your game is over we encourage you to retire to the club house for a well deserved drink and a chat. The buying of drinks for your opposite number can be an embarrassment for those on a limited budget. Also some of our players do not drink alcohol, and can only afford soft drinks. Therefore, do not feel obliged to offer to buy drinks for your opponent.
