Club Matches - Rules

As printed in 2024 Fixtures Book
  • Cup Matches:   The Club should always select the strongest available team from available Members.

  • Men’s League Matches:  For teams in both leagues, pools of players will have been identified by the selection committee, ensuring that whilst each team contains a balanced pool, the first teams are given preference.  Players for each match will be selected from those members who have put their names forward to play.  The Weston and District Over-55’s Triples League has three teams, “Crusaders”, “Knights” and “Templars”.  The Somerset League has three teams “A”, “B”  and “C”.

  • Home Matches: Green & Gate Marshalls-  Players will be nominated by the Selection Committee to set out all the equipment required for all Home Matches and to manage the Park gates.  These nominated players must arrive 45 minutes before the start of the game and will be indicated on the Selection Sheet.

  • Attendance:  Selected players should ensure they arrive at least 20 minutes before a Home-match starts, or time of departure from Club House for away matches.  If travelling direct to an away match, you must inform the Captain of the Day and should arrive at least 20 minutes before the match starts.

  • Reserves:  Any member selected as a reserve should attend, ready to play in the match unless previously cleared by the Captain of the Day.  The Captain can nominate a reserve to play if the originally selected player is not available, or has failed to arrive on time.

  • Selection Committee: Should select the most appropriate team of players from those members offering themselves for selection.

All members should make themselves available for a minimum of 12 matches

The Captain of the Day may alter the position of selected players only under exceptional circumstances.  The Captain can only call in unselected players when all reserves have been used. Unselected players must be chosen from the  availability list.  One reserve should be selected to travel to away games.  The committee maintains a chart of members’ availability, selection, etc., and publishes this at regular intervals.

  • Other matches:  Members wishing to have roll-ups should note that on match days, whilst club matches are in progress, the whole green is under the control of the captain of the day, and only rinks 1 and 6 can be used.  (Permission must be obtained from Captain of the Day)  Members will not normally be able to book rinks for competitions on a green whilst club matches are being played.
